When we started this tattoo cord project we couldn't find the perfect raw cable for the task, and that's why we designed and ordered a full production of our own custom cable from a manufacturer under our specifications. This is the most important part and we didn't want anything else but the best.
It has the right flexibility, it is medical grade qualified (ISO 10993-5), and it is almost indestructible - tested with a blade knife! By the way, this option comes with a beautiful black carrying pouch for your cord.
The Connectors
We tested dozens of RCA connectors and found that the best for tattooing was Switchcraft (made in the USA), which showed the best grip retention over time. On the other end, the jack connector has to allow the power to flow without restrictions, and for that, it has to have a solid core capable of high peaks of current. Neutrik connectors are the top brand for this purpose: they are solid and finished in real gold.
The Building Process
The soldering process has to be perfect because the joints will be exposed to a long-time vibration environment. We used a NASA protocol for the soldering of the connectors which involves several steps of cleaning and flux application to get a perfect result. Our cable-to-connector finishing includes a maritime heat-shrink tube with glue sealing to prevent the ingress of dirt or liquids into the connector. We also locked the connector's shell so the cord won't come loose ever.
